This week in our Vendor Spotlight, we sat down with Helene of HeidnSeek Bridal for a quick chat...
How did you get started in the wedding business?
I’m a romantic and after doing events for years and being around the concert business, I decided to assist Brides & Grooms on what is their own personal concert:) I worked in events at Pro Image, The Maryland Food Bank, on several charity function boards and for my own company. With all of the planning experience I have had, I knew that I could make the process go very smoothly for a wedding.
How would you describe your approach to weddings?
I’m very clear, logical, and positive. I listen to all of their requests and come up with a plan that works best for them. I enjoy all the logistics that many would find tedious. Details are my thing:)
What inspires you in your work?
G-d and my desire to do the best job I can do to assist my clients. My daughter, Heidi, (Owner, HeidnSeek Entertainment, LLC) also inspires me to stay focused and to take advantage of every opportunity. She is a real, go getter, that one. One thing I love most about her though is that she gives even more than she receives.
What do you find the most rewarding about your job?
Receiving the joy and smiles on the faces of the Brides & Grooms and their families and friends. That is the best reward.
What’s the one thing you wish everyone knew about you or your business?
That I have been coordinating high profile events for many decades, so there is nothing I am not prepared for.
What do you think sets your company apart from others?
My personal approach. I view clients as extended family.
What do you love about weddings?
I love the happiness, joy and positivity that comes from a wedding and knowing that you are helping to bring two people together.
What’s the best piece of advice you can give to couples planning a wedding?
Take it slow, write down your ideas and talk them over with your fiancé and your family. Read a couple of wedding magazines, go to a few websites like Wedding 411, Wedding Wire and The Knot. Don't look at everything in the world though; it's too much information. Call me to help with the stress of how to handle so much and the pressure of 'Where do I begin'. I do all of that for you. Talk to your officiant for his/her advice too.
Who is your favorite artist or band?
Jacob Jensen. Isn't he everyones?
Best party you put on?
It's a tie between the events I've planned in the past for Diana Ross, Martin Lawrence, Earth Wind & Fire, and Alice Cooper when they were in town performing at the Baltimore Arena. If you can plan and satisfy a particular celebrity client, you can plan for anyone. Ask me about them anytime. They were a quite fun part of my history. My Brides are celebrities to me, too:) I sure aim to make each one feel like one. Honestly though, I think the events I coordinated for Heidi as a child may have been just as exciting. We did not hold back and loved to entertain on a large scale and bring joyous memories to everyone. I bring that festive attitude to everything. I aim to cater to clients seamlessly while also remaining completely honest. Everyone appreciates when you tell it to them straight.
What do you want to see more clients doing for their events?
Clients not being afraid to spend the money to have someone assist them all the way through or even in day of preparation. You end up saving more by keeping your time and your sanity with a veteran adviser who can alert your to the proper fits for all your unique desires and negotiating on your behalf to make sure you are taken care of. I see it as the most important day of some people's lives. Would you go to court without a lawyer to represent you on an important date? That's how I feel about having a supervising planner and day of assistant who has a firm handle on all the rituals, orders of things, layout and timing of an often complex process. I often see non-assisted Brides putting a lot on their families and the families cannot enjoy the ceremony or reception. Why should you, your bridal party, family or friends have to worry about one thing on your day when there are quality, yet affordable options available?
What do you do when you are not working?
I like to spend time talking to G-d each week. I work a lot, but I have a rescue dog, so I love to walk, play with him, ride my bike and be outdoors. I love to dance, too!
Interesting fact about you?
I’m a perfectionist and a giver. I plan many other events besides weddings such as corporate and charity events. I also enjoy assisting other wedding planners and caterers with project management when they have more than one event in one day. That way, they can keep and serve that second or third client, but have a seasoned professional representing them and not have to worry about sacrificing the quality that their services represent.
